Dear Sir,
Employee Retention schemes is a long term policies.
For example giving a house site for him by tagging to his service on subsidized price.
Assisting the House Loan by standing guarantee and seeking from long service.
Giving year by year good increments to retain him and not to think of leaving the job
All these needs management support. As an HR person, you can not do anything.

Dear Hemant,
In a company for a key person in the project, they announced a lumpsum bonus in the month Sep 2011 with a condition that they would pay him at the salary of March 2012 if he stay with them.
The concerned employee is still working with the company and hence this works.
