Hi,
We got a policy of Time Off in Lieu in my company. We provide Time Off in lieu for employees who are working on weekly holidays at client location. If they work for 2 days extra on any holidays they are eligible to avail these extra days as off on weekdays.
I am doing a research in the indian market to understand how this policy is executed in other industries or companies.
We sell IT Products for mining industry across the globe. Our Services team travel to the client location to provide training on our IT products sometimes they may have to work during the weekly holidays also.
Please provide your inputs if anyone has details about this policy.

Hi Anil,
This policy is very commonly used. This is nothing but a kind of flexibility given to the employees.
This totally depends of the Industry and in specific depends on organization.
Time off is also known as Comp Off. In most of the manufacturing companies, the comp off is equivalent to extra hours worked on daily basis (Instead of giving the overtime). Once the extra worked hours become 8 hours, emp is eligible for one comp off.
Sevice Industry work in a different environment, they dont have the concept of comp off.
IT industry works on basis of project. If the project is finished well before time , the rest of the time employees enjoy off. Like if a project of 12 days is completed in 8 days (streching working hours during those 8 days), rest 4 days are given off.
Some IT companies cancel all the holidays during the week and postpone this to weekend and give extended weekend.
So, it totally depends on the Business and Industry.
