What is the reason for adopting all Saturdays as paid off days in an organization say IT company?
From India, Panipat
Because in IT companies employees work extra hours every day 12 to 14 hours to meet deadlines. I think so. That’s why Saturday is given compensation

As per the Labor Law one should work for 8 hours per day to be considered as a working day so 8 x 6= 48 hours or 9.6 x 5 = 48 hours.

It is my thinking that the IT people work for foreign nations and they observe weekend holidays, as such we also follow the same and it is for this reason that the IT companies do not observe holidays for many of our festivals.
I think that it has got nothing to do with sticking to rules or compensating for extra hours.

Actually we deserve it, otherwise we will crash on monday morning, but sometime we do work on sats and sundays too, depending upon the deliveries if delayed

Hi I also agree with rajendra, as most of the IT companies violate the labor Law in india. Regards Rejimon.CG

Dear,
Ravindersingh.
If you are prepared to face the consequences you may make a representation to the Factory Inspector or Labour Court and claim overtime.
Alternately you may post an anonymous letter but that will not be of much use unless you have a very dedicated officer in your area.
Discussing with your management and convincing them is the most amicable solution.

Dear Jyoti,
Most of the prominent IT companies do export of their software and deal with their foreign clients and have to attend to their SW related queries only during their clients' working period. Since they are locatd mostly in USA, UK, European countries and Australia, and they observe 5 days' week, that can be the main reason for them to keep Saturday as an off day, as the same could prove as a day of slackness without any need arising out of their clients on that day. But usually they work for more hours on other working days.

In future...there should be system of less working hours ... an effective way to function....Saturday off is a right we deserve..
