Please suggest me your methods of Performance Appraisal.......which you follow in your company...........as this is my first expirence...........

Hi Cite Hr Friends ,
Our company has been completed almost one year. Here 25 employees are working and i'm only person in Hr Department. For past one month, i'm getting more details, reference through citeHr site and other site.
One more thing, I have 5yrs of exp. in supply chain management . I got offer here as EXE - HR. I need to develop my company and build HR Dept.
I have gained some knowledge in HR. But still, there some topic , which never get clear on that , offcourse PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL
Can u people suggest me, what is performance aprraisal ? usage of performance appraisal? where to use performance appraisal? whether it is doing for our company records or external audit purpose ?
for my company, which performance suits us? (90,180,270,360 degree ).
If there any attachment file for performance appraisal, kindly forward me.
