Dear Sir / Ma'am
A friend of mine has been working with a company since last 4 to 5 months. Every month the company deducts certain amount from his CTC for PF but despite putting in several requests the accounts or the HR department are not telling him his EPF number.
The new employees who have been now hired in last two weeks are being asked if they would like their PF to be deducted or not (an option which was not given to my friend or any other previous employee)
With regard to the above stated I have the following queries.
1. Is an employer allowed to hide the PF details (PF number and balance) from the employee?
2. Since the PF contribution is optional (his basic salary has always been more than 6500 ) what can he now do to ensure that no more deduction are made from his CTC for PF?
3. What is the procedure for withdrawing the amount contributed till date?

You can approach the concerned PF office and confirm if your contribution is being deposited, if not approach the Labour Officer with proof of PF deduction.

Dear Anika
The Er is not allowed to hide PF details. There are instructions from the PF Deptt that every month the copy of Monthly Challans should be displayed on the Notice Board to be seen by the Ees & to ensure that the Er is not keeping deducted PF for his own use. this is good HR practice to win the confidence of workforce. The details can very well be verified from PF website epfindia.gov.in or epfindia.com as well.
PF is not optional, if the employee is already a PF Member. If PF is deducted is beneficial for the Ee hence the Er will not deduct more on A/c of PF. The withdrawal is not permitted so long an employee is in service. No Adv is available unless 5 years service done. As a rule PF amount should not be withdrawn as far as possible even in most critical situation. It is a life time saving to be used after one looses his earning capacity from regular sources.

Details of account balance cannot be seen on the web site without the allotted PF account number. If the deduction is being projected in the salary slip or you have any other proof that your PF is being deducted then the first step would be to approach the PF Office and confirm that it is being deposited or not, if it is not being deposited the PF Office will take legal action.
If it is being deposited the Labour Officer/Inspector will help you to get the Account details.
As regards withdrawal Mr.Bhargava is right in his suggestions.
It may be noted here that the above actions may strain your relations with the Boss which may be best avoided. Take above actions only if you have reasons to beleive that the Boss cannot be trusted.

zent1981 seems to be missing the point. There is no previous employer,it is the current employer who has been deducting the PF and not disclosing the Account number.
The suggestions made by other members are good enough.

Hi Rajendra,
I am not missing and trying to tell that, once his current employer receive such kind of mails stating PF/statutory related matters are marked to the govt. then his/her current employer would be in trouble or in fear and has to provide PF number.
Regards
