Hi

For anything you do in life, a clear goal /vision, adequate motivation / enthusiasm, hard work / discipline and the ability to take risks/ challenges are critical attributes.

However if you are seeking help in improving your communication skills in a short time, I am afraid it is not so easy. I presume when you refer to communication skills you also mean that you want to improve upon your English Language skills too. What you primarily require is the key attributes called 'discipline' and 'enthusiasm' with which you can achieve anything you want.

Your enthusiasm is the reason you wrote in at Citehr. The next test is to be disciplined and follow the suggestions given here.

1. My first suggestion is to read as much in English as possible. A standard daily English Newspaper and the Readers Digest have very good reading material.

2. Make more English speaking friends and make a determined effort to speak only in English, even if you keep forgetting words, or tend to stammer or your friends tend to laugh at you. This will require a lot of will power but believe me you will soon improve.

3. I would also suggest you try to learn at least 3 -5 new words and look up the meaning in a dictionary. then try and use these words in your daily work and in your communication.

4. If you still feel that professional help is needed then you will have to attend English speaking classes

5. You must also use WORD to type in your written communication and try to correct the errors that show up. This is quick and easy way to improve your written skills. eg. there are a few errors in what you have typed in Citehr regarding your problem, which could easily have been corrected before posting it. Avoid all tendency to use SMS language, short forms, slang etc.

6. Finally, if you can, do visit my blogs listed below regularly and try to learn the new words in it and also be inspired by it. You can click on the links below for instant access.

hi Dear bharat,
Mr. A Jacob has provided you with a nice guide line just follow it eagerly, however i like to add one thing more in it, that is- just make a story in your mother tongue, visualize it- create in brain pictures about it. Then take some relevant English words and imbibe these with ur story.....then u will get to know what i m saying about - u will never forget those words,
thanks & regards,

Hi Bharat
I agree with the above posts, although I would recommend strongly against the Tribune or other US newspapers unless you wish to learn US English, which has very different grammar and spelling to UK English (which I believe is the English of India). The Daily Telegraph offers a weekly summary newspaper service - the best articles from the last seven days - very good and reasonably priced. Another suggestion is to pick up a copy of The Economist regularly - very astute political and state-of-the-world articles. Finally - buy a book of crossword puzzles (easy ones at first, and then progressing upwards in diificulty as you get better) - I can remember learning French at school and being given the crosswords from Paris Match - makes you think!
Good luck

Hi Bharat,
I agree with Ajit. Word power made easy by Norman Lewis is good and practical way to improve English, apart from other suggestions mentioned above .The main plus is , with one word , you may , on average master ten words, as the book uses tap root of the word concerned etc.I had used it in my third year of my Engg course to improve my English, it works!
NO point in just buying, but WE MUST READ AT LEAST ONE HOUR PER DAY. In 21 days , you can see a difference in you(If you were reading @ one hour per day . at least). You can supplement this, by listening to English channels suggested.
Happy Learning !
