hi, 35% of 90 is nothing but 35/100*90=31.5 This is aptitude question. simple question to put in by the interviewer.

- a simple school level maths question. Not really a question to test your aptitude.
- Probably a easy question to lead you towards tougher questions, or to test your response time, alertness, presence of mind or to judge are you nervous, tense.

Cmon man, this is std 3 level Math. As easily calculated by twohearts it is 35/100*90=31.5. So, not sure where or why you got stuck.
Anyways, i hope you got the job despite this inability.

Giri for numbers ending in 5 the square is like 75 * 75 means first tske square of 5 which is 25 then multiply 7 by next digit I.e 8 which is 5625

This is called practical mathematics. In Hindi medium schools teachers teach to solve the mathematics questions with a method called fraction solving. My Grandfather is 86 years old and he calculates any mathematics question even before any of us geniuses could even pick up the calculators from our tables.
the best system would have been
divide 90 by 10= 9 this is 10 percent
now for thirty percent multiply 9 by 3= 27
now add half of 9= 4.5 to 27= 31.5 answer. Believe me practice this you will be faster then most of people.

- Purpose of posting a query and discussion here is not to ridicule the poster and to teach him how %age is calculated. He obviously knows it and HR professionals are not expected to teach it and they should not take pride in knowing basic maths.
- Real purpose of post is to understand why such questions are asked in interview ? How such questions help or do not help in selecting right candidates ? Will such questions have impact on selection and rejection of candidates ?
