Dear All, I am little bit worried about the career path towards HR. I mean is it really difficult to start a carrier in HR without having a prior experience. Books can only give us theoretical knowledge but until and unless we don't use it in the practical scenario, no use of it. It's even difficult to get the job - in this case how to go ahead??? I mean how to gain experience if we want to go ahead with the HR Field only. Pl. Suggest any institution or some seminars where this kind of training is given.

What are you doing presently?
Your concerns are unfounded. All in HR field today were in your situation when they started! Formal education, as I have said elsewhere is like obtaining a "driving licence". It only certifies your "ability" to drive. Unless you "practice" what you have learnt, you do not develop "skill".
So, acquiring formal training in a chosen field is the equivalent of obtaining a driving licence. Getting into employment is equivalent to starting the practice and by encashing opportunities, doing apprenticeship under seniors who could act as mentors, by hand holding, delegating and analysing your performance and mistakes will help you "grow" and "evolve" in the function.
You start at the beginning as usual. Look for entry in institutes like TISS in Mumbai or XLRI jamshedpur or SCMHRD in Pune or do a regular MBA course with HR as a specialization. Remember doing any of these programmes is yet like obtaining a driving licence. Thereafter the learning continues alongwith the job you do.
Some of the things I have stated may not be relevant to your situation but I am responding on the basis of the contents of your post. If you need to ask more questions, fell free.

But i had already persuade my MBA with Elective in HR from ICFAI. But being a distance learning course, i didnt get much knowledge.
Now to move ahead with the field from where to start????

My advice is to look for an organization where culturally HR is an established and accepted function.
The sharpen your focus to seek a position to work under an experienced, knowledgeable superior who will take you under his wings as it were and it is in this manner you will have a lot if opportunities to learn the trade in real sense. A few years like this and you will be ready to fly solo in this profession.
To achieve this do not worry too much if you have to take some beating on the remuneration aspect (if you have to but within reason.) I am saying this as I see your keenness in being a good HR. But for heaven's sake do NOT be tempted with opportunities as head of the function even in a small firm. It seems you are not ready to play the top role as yet!

* pursue those courses which may give you formal education in field of HR (eg. MBA- Hr or Diploma in HR )
* I belong to delhi , where i searched alot for those institute which may provide practical knowledge in Generalist HR functions but i am not sure that whether these type of institute /courses exist in your state , these institutes covers almost all major topics in Generalist Hr (they give an insight about Covered aspect for eg. how to do appraisal in a company , what type of forms to fill etc). these institute claims to provide assistance in getting placed .kindly google these type of institute providing practical Hr training.
