Dear friend,
i would like to suggest you in this regard i.e.firstly you try to find out what type of work concern with HR is been carry out in this company and then find out for this work who are responsible. therefore you decide is there any scope to you for doing HR activity.

Dear Zenith,

I strickly advice every friend of mine to know the complete JD before joining any organisation or else here is where we end up with. I request you to approach your HR Manager, convey him/her about your urge to excel as a generalist instead of ending up as a admin person. Convince your manager that you are willing to take up and learn all the generalist functions/activities in HR and that was why you have decided to quit your previous organisation as there was no scope for such role over there. Make him clear that you will act both as HR as well as admin during the training process alone and once you get to learn all the generalist activities you will get into generalist role leaving behind the admin activites. As a matter of concern please also convey that at times on need basis you can also help them in admin activities.

Hope this will help you for an extent. Get back to me if you have any more queries.

Hi Zenith Amrita:

I want to clarify the misconception that only work related to recruitment, appraisal, welfare come within the ambit of HR. In most of the organizations where manpower is lean, a number of administrative responsibilities will have to discharged by hr personnel. Administration work is part of HR domain. It is not alien. And in our long career we need to be masters of handling many difficult things that the organization need. For the young ones, every work is an opportunithy to learn. Please learn it and prove your mettle and in course of time ask for channge of roles. If you have proved your efficiency and versatality, you will be able to get whatever you want.

I want to counsel our dear young colleagues that they need to become versatile in their career. That will help them bid for senior level positions at a later date with multifarooius responsibilities like real estate care, house magazines, public relations, security, corporate publications, township and corporate social responsibilities and a host of other activities.
