Do nothing than understanding all of them and creating good interpersonal relationship with them. You cannot create discipline with stick (tough words)at the very first time.Build a rapport with all first ,specially with that person who is the problem creator.the difference of age creates unnecessary ego hassles ,you must not show it from your side.Show them that you know less and being old employees they know more ,you need to keep patience for atleast few months to build a cordial relation, after that they all will do what you will ask them to do.
LOve is the only mode which can be dealt in adult learning.

Thank you..But the thing here is that i have already followed the method which you have suggested me they take it as advantage that's why i changed the way of treatment previously i used to deal softly with all of them but they take this as advantage and finally my Boss scolded me that tell them everything in a commanding way being an HR executive commanding power is very important.

Dear Madhuri,
Mitali is right. U have to deal with the employees in loving manner. First u have to join their group using ur friendly nature. After winning their confidence, they will come under ur control. Its a long term process (may be of 1 year). Keep patience..
When they feel like that Madhuri is of our kind, she is not the extra ordinary person, then they will follow ur instructions to save u from the fire words of ur boss. Always remember ' A good HR never shows his/her frustration on employees.'
I hope this will better help u........

Being your first job you are new to this kind of environment. It happens in each and every org in India. You can only do one thing keep a watch on their performance and the their office timings i.e.they complete 8-9 hrs of stipulated time. This kind of environment is generally there in IT Companies.

Dear Madhuri,
Please consider my suggestions:
Wish you all the best !

Please consider my suggestions:
- You are younger to them in age , let this be your advantage and not a roadblock. It opens up avenue for you to learn from all of them and grow.
- Having said that, you have a duty to deliver. Please spend time to understand your role completely. You are an enabler and not a class monitor. Set your limits to what you would communicate and then escalate it to your superiors.
- Invest time and energy to understand them. Observe what are their triggers for actions? How do they think ? What catch phrases do they use? Read all their files. Know every details about them. Don't use it against them, but wisely acknowledge their achievements so far.
- Understand what they think about the company. Allow them to share their experiences with you. Since you are younger to them, they would share their learning points , appreciate them.
- Once you are at stronger position armed with both job skills and employee management skills, then start explaining why the rules needs to be respected. It brings them more credibility if they follow the norms. Ask for collaboration from them to maintain the rules better. The regulations are for the employees and not against them.
- Be firm but respectful. Eventually they would value you.
- Finally, relax. This is a phase you will face in all your new jobs. You will always have employees senior to you whom you would be handling. So start building this skill right from this role.
- Keep blogging your experience, you would learn more each time you share your bitter-sweet experiences.
Wish you all the best !

ask them two way process which is beneficial for them as well as for Organization too.arrange some fun activities..once in a month.
try to see their interest ,first keeping in mind Organizations goal..their are lot many other activities which can help.. go for some bench marking for employee engagement...

Hi Madhuri,
I strongly agree the points that were suggested by (Cite Contribution) & Trapti.
Simultaneously to have a active interaction with all ur employees try to organize some games like carroms, chess, singing competitions, running race (mostly with less expenditure after speaking with ur reporting officer & get approval for the expenditure). As u said they are senior employees u have an oppurtunity to conduct drawing competition for their kids.
All these are done to make them feel free & interact to u openly.
At the end of the day u can take feedback not only how they felt but also what they need in order to contribute for Organization.
