Hi All seniors,

I want to know about Hr leave policy. Is there any particular leave policy which should be followed by every organization. As my working with IT company in Mumbai. We have 5days working, 8hrs working and 1hr for all breaks in a day. Timings are 8.30am to 5.30pm and every alternate saturday its working for full day. It is getting horrible as we dont have any time to do our personal work. Am looking after hr and admin dept. no one else is there in my dept. Everyone in my organisation is fedup with saturday working they want some relaxation in this. They all approach to me in this. As this saturday working is only made compulsory 3 months before previously we dont use to come on any saturday. Now you please guys help me in this so that i can convience my boss by saying this is the Hr policy and we are suppose to follow it. In interview time he has given us commitment that its 5days working and now all of certain he has made changes. From last 3 mths we all are coming but now we dont want to come as he said while implementing this rule we will see your all performance and after few mths we will change it again. We dont have any hopes he is going to give us relaxation in this matter.

What can i do for my staff in this. Please help me.

Waiting for your responses.

Preeti.

Dear Preeti,
I like to give few inputs after going through your case. As per the law the working hours for a week is not more than 48 hours which will work around 8 hours per day with minimum break of half an hour which will come around 6 working days a week. Its organisation's choice to have 6 days or 5 working days. If a person is working more than the prescribed time he should be compensated with OT which is 1.5 of his normal salary.
But in today's working ambience organisations follow flexible working hours rather than following the traditional schedule. So its the management's decision to decide on 5 or 6 days of working considering various factors like are of operation of business, man power utilisation, No of man power available etc.. Employees of your company can have a meeting with the management and decide on the issue.
Other plz correct if i am wrong.

Hi Raghu,

Thanks for giving me advice. Yes you are right as per the law it should be 48 hrs working in a day. We work for 8hrs in a day n 1hr for break i.e 9hrs of office and alternate saturdays full day working . Manpower is not much we are only 10 in this office. Can you help me with some website or any law so that i can convience my director regarding same. I really want to discuss on this with management but all here are not ready to discuss on this in front of him they are scared. I have taken initiative but result is of no use. But now i really say this is exploitation nothing else. only 3 of us come on time and leave office on time sometimes we have sit late to finish off work and rest all 6 of them never come on time they come by 12.00 to 12.30 and leave by 6.00- 6.30.We cant take any holiday/leave any day even though you are ill. I have taken twice leave as i was not well next day i received mail from my director (i have informed him about my illness.) Now you please tell me how to convinece him.

Please reply am waiting for your responses.

Dear Preeti,
I have gone through your reply. I can make out that you are disappointed with ur work and the ambience. Also i like to know bit deep abt the case before i could give u my suggestion. Which company r u working, wats the area of operation and other related stuffs as i like to know in detail before offering suggesetion. Even you can write to if you are comfortable.
Moreover rather than getting scared and getting stressed out you all should work as a team. Out of 10, 3 come on time and doing the work and rest on their own timings and getting away with that doesnot create a healthy work place ambience.
If you feel that you are overworked and overcooked notion of change in job can also be considered.

Hi Raghu,
My organization is IT company. Its a branch ofce of India H.Q is in Finland. We dont develop any software here its just a sales and mktg ofce. I dont knw 4m whr to start there are so many things in this office which disturbs me alot. I have prepared company policy in which i have mentioned him about all types of leaves but he has not authorized it till date. We have not received any appointment letter and now my probation period is also finished. Please help me with leave policy so that i can say him what we are doing is not right.

Dear Preeti,
The leave policy differs from company to company. I have seen in the same HR forum a member writing that for every 20 days of work a person earns 1 day leave. But we in our company have 3 days of leave for a person distributed as Earned leave/Privilage leave, Medical leave and casual leave. Casual leave cannot be encashed or clubbed with any other leave where CL will mount up to 6 days in a year rest of the leaves can be encashed. If you require still more details i will be able to help you out.
I like to tell you something that as your probation got over i will suggest you to collect your letter of confirmation or the next stage letter if not you are left in dark as in which stage you are. So i will insist you to collect your letter of confirmation. If you facingso much problems in a company you can better look for other options. Let me know what you have completed and how many years of experiece.

Hi Raghu,

I know policy differ from company to company but there is some policy to be followed here we dont knw anything about our CL,SL,PL. As i told you i have prepared and submitted to my director but he has kept me in dark by saying it has to be approved by our HQ in Finland. But we visited last month to Finland and when i met the HR people there they told me to follow your own policy as per your country, if it is not possible then you can take our help. I was shocked. Its of no use we had not received any company policy yet. Here nothing is systematic and no one wants to work under system. Management is only weak. I have given him many ideas and suggestion for improvement as am only looking after Hr and Admin no one else is there in this department. He do implements the things like working hours but that is only for 3 of us we are new comers. 6 mth back we joined this company.

About my qualification.. am Commerce graduate from Mumbai University with 1year DHRM from Welingkars institute, Mumbai. Having experince in banking for 6mths as Trainee officer , 8 mths with ICICI bank as HR executive (as an outsource) and from last 7 mths with this organisation.

Many times i think to quit this job as i get frustrated but at same time i feel things will be changed slowly. I dont know am wasting my time or am doing right thing. In future there will be more recruitment so i think things will not remain same.

Can i do something for working hours in this situation.

Regards,

Preeti
