Dear All,
I need to help my trainees to be loud enough and also help them bring up their energy level while speaking/talking.
Could anyone suggest ways and methods or some exercises/activities that would aid them?
Would be great if I could get any ppt pertaining to the same.
Thanks for the time taken to go through this!

Hi,
You can select few words which will demand modulation and also lengthy. This might be in any language but make them pronounce it in english and see to that they are right. Using this they will be out of the fear at first. Then you can raise their pitch step by step .

Thanks a ton Vijay!
It was really nice of u to drop in a few lines for my concern.
I tried doing what you suggested but that wasn't fruitful as was expected 'coz when they come back to normal talking or audience addressing they r back to square one.
The are very inconsistent.
Please suggest further.

Dear Kavita:
Please clarify the follwoing:
1. What do your organization do
2. What is the nature of your trainees
3. What do you want them to express exactly. Do you want them to contribute new ideas or do you want hem to respond you.
With these information, we can give you our suggestions.

Dear Priya,
I work in a KPO and my employees have to interact with the clients over the phone(web-conference/teleconference).
The clients complain that they are very soft spoken and not loud enough to be heard.
Hence, I would like my employees to meet the above mentioned client needs.
Please suggest.

Hi...This is a kind of team building game...and it surely helps lift up the spirits...break the group into no. of teams...ask them each to decide on a name for their team an write a slogan for themselves...then everyday...during the training, if u feel that the session is getting too dull...u can call up the name of one of the teams randomly...the team wud be expected to instantly stand up...no matter where each individual team member is sitting and literally shout out their slogan...they wud all need to be attentive and it wud surely make the session more interesting and enjoyable...u can score them on the basis of the energy level of the team, etc. Though this kind of a thing wud only be possible in a proper training room, so that the shouts doesnt disturb the others.
This exercise would help them learn to work as a team, get comfortable with each other, and hopefully, speak up a bit more.

hi,
if your guys are too soft on phone its due to confidence if person is not confident or hes not clear about the subject.....
what you can do is ....
do some mock calls where you on the call be very soft and ask for their feedback and what consequence it can lead to ask for their feedback....
ask them to read a paragraph and see if their soft in their usual communication or its some other issue (confidence, accent etc)...
also one interesting activity you can do is to ask them to demonstrate role play where they have to propose a girl/boy ....
have diffrent role play showing somebody whose speaks too loud , too soft and moderate.....
ask them which one is the apt one......
hope it add some value.......
cheers

Dear Kavita,
It's merely related to their confidence. Some may have a soft voice but then if you can clearly explain what you are suppose to then it is fine. Either they may not sure of the accent or they may not be good in their communication level. So please try to improve their confidence level by finding out the exact weakness. This can be done by continuous practice. You can do one thing. You make a call quite often like a client and listen how they speak on the phone to you when you are a client, similarly how they talk to you generally, by this way you can analyze their confidence level and you can also find out where they lack and if you know the problem you can easily find out the solution.

Hello again Kavita,
As I understand your problem, you want them to be able to increase speech volume at will.
In addition to the games and confidence building sessions mentioned by others, I would also recommend that you connect with a Speech Therapist. Also, if you have someone in your organization who has done vocal training (western or indian classical doesn't matter) or has sung professionally, sit with them and create an exercise where the participants learn how to modulate their voice.
This (voice modulation) is a very important technique because in the long run, it will reduce stress and strain on vocal chords.
Also, read up on "The Alexander Technique". You can google this. This again is a vocalist training tool. Extremely effective for public speaking, and definitely will help in your situation.
Voice modulation is a gradual process and constant practise is the key. Don't expect results overnight.
Hope you find this useful.
