Dear Dilip

I firmly believe that not only safety but all trainings must have videos clipping. This creates the message on what you want to deliver and your training success increases. If we tell the participants that work safely that wont understand, but show them the videos which shows that where they would land in case of accident would have greater impact and they would be more careful.

Now on the dis-advantage side. The movies/videos on safety which would have direct impact would definately contain accident scenarios and blood etc which would have deep impact on weak hearted employees. BUT I take it as advantage as they are the one who spread the message when they see non-compliance of safety and inculcate safety the most - not only in workplace but also at home.

I start my presentation with video and then go on explaining what mistake was done and how could it have been avoided. My first video is of 20 minutes and shows different cases of more that 15 horryfing fatalities after which I start - why safety and importance of safety at workplace.

Other in this forum may differ - BUT you may try the impact and feel the difference yourself.

Dear Deepak - Please see what the discussion is all about. Your article is good but must have been in NEW DISCUSSION and not in this one.

Best Regards to All

Thanks for your views on the topic...
I am also agreeing with you in one thing... Safety Videos is one of the good tool we can use for trainings... The main thing we have to ensure is that the presence of mind of the participants... Whether they are really following us or not...
In my view: Advantages:
1. Really help to create an impact of what we want to convey.
2. As it's a visual media participants will show more interest.,
3. Use short duration videos, then can talk on the basis of the same, Etc.
Dis-advantages:
1. A lengthy video may fail to keep the concentration of viewers.
2. Just by showing a video training is not imparted. If fails to discuss after the video what we have shown and get feedback from the participants , its not fulfilling the purpose...
Hope to get more views on the topic...

Dear Dilip
I fully agree with you. Now when you are aware of the dis-advantages - convert them to the best advantages. As mentioned by you make the video films in smaller sections and include them in your presentations.
My way as mentioned earlier - Start with 20 mins Video - then presentation. My presentations have average of one clip of 10-20 secs after every 4-5 slides explaining the content of slides.
I am not aware that what procedure do you follow, but I conduct test objective (80%) and Subjective (20%) after every training. I get fantastic results.
Wrong answers (usually one or two) is explained again to the participants calling them personally.
Whatever you do - have questionnare post training. This should be meant to check OUR delivery of the subject and secondary understanding by participants. It is vital that the TRAINER is Groomed.

We can really avoid the dis-advantages if correctly managed... I know one organization where Safety Induction training is imparting with the help of an animated video of more about 35 minute... No discussions afterwards showing the film on the topics covered... In this situation how many of the participants get through the entire module, dont't know...
What we are having is that one feed back forum after the trainings... Also the second last slide of each presentation is for disussions... As you are rightly said, the success of any programme is upto the trainer...
I bring down this topic for a discussion, because our Safety Consultant DuPont is strongly dis-agree to use the lengthy videos for imparting a safety training... To know the views of all others only I bring the topic into the forum... However good to know your views...
