Dear members , I wanted to know which training methods are used to change attitudes of employees? Nikhil
From India, Delhi
Dear Nikhil,
No training has changed any employee's attitude any time. There could be ephemeral change but not lasting one.
If few hours of training could have changed one's approach towards life, then the life would have been far better place to live!
There are training companies who claim that they conduct the training on "Positive Mental Attitude" but none has ever given any measurable impact of their training.
I too have conducted the training on positive thinking but then all I could do is to give some examples of how because of positive thinking the person has achieved outstanding heights.
Time and again this topic comes up for discussion. Earlier I have given reply to similar post. Please click the following link to refer it:

Hi
The key to attitudinal changes is intrinsic motivation and self belief. If you can make the trainees believe that a small shift in attitude can revolutionize their lives, they will seek and find the right training to further their future.
Check the daily blogs listed below to get a hang of what can be done practically when the message is understood

I believe through my experience that one can guide the employees to change the attitude through proper training. I have done it not only for seasoned union staff but also for students aspiring for jobs.
Having said that let me also warn you that it cannot be done over one training session of one or two days. It has to be correctly planned after checking the ground reality, towards the training content and the time period. I can assure you that change can happen if rightly planned. I am ready to take up the challenge if you are interested. You can contact me at

Attitude training is such a challenge because the causes of the attitude are so diverse. Training will be useful when the inputs that lead to insights are repreated & reinforced over a period of time and when attitude change is shown to give tangible results. This kind of training is already been taken forward & it has been my privilege to have it implemented .
Should you be interested in taking this forward I would be pleased to give you the "modus vivendi" on a simple direct message from you using this web site

Re attitude training
I must agree with other repondents-cannot train someone to change a mind-people need to understand that what needs to be changed. Attitude and perceptions are the basis of behavior. Attitude is the pair of glasses through which we view the world. Attitudes are based on our values and personality and also influenced by the environment. We specialize in mindset change programmes based on theory ( safety - and customer care programmes). These programmes are very successfully introduced in the minng industry where serious accidents still happen. It is however an OD intervention and not a training programme

Firstly the need for such a training should be identified. If you have identified that there is a need to train persons to change their attitude, then you have to jot down what attitueds you want to change and what attitudes you want to develop. The next step would be to design a training to fulfill these training needs. It has to be designed taking into account the expected learning outcomes. Suitable methodlogy should also be chosen keeping in view the subject as well as the profile of the participants. It should however, be kept in mind that the first training programme could, at best, act as a trigger. Further reinforcement has to be given at the work place and culture of the company. The progress has to be watched carefully and second stage of training should be given at the appropriate time wherein keeping in mind the feedback on the effect of the first phase of training necessary syllabus and methodology can be adopted. Thus it will be a gradual process and requires careful nurturing. It cannot be a one shot one. It also cannot be a prescription that would be suitable for all circumstance. It is organisation specific, individual specific and time consuming.

A role model trainer can bring the desired attitude change by inspiring and bringing change in participants' feeling, thinking, speaking and doing facets.
One such 3 day module was tested in a PSU in last october with the title " Positive Thinking, Attitude Building and Changing Mindset" for Supervisors. The company desired to repeat the same module to cover all 500 supervisory level personnel and the project is being conducted every month for 25 participants over a duration of 3 days. The feedback of past participants is highly positive with worth visibile impact in their behaviour.
It requires top mgt's support and follow up.
