Hi all
As a part of my summer project I am working on developing leadership in one of India's leading power companies. Are there any known approaches for the same?
I look forward to advice and valuable inputs as to how I should approach this topic.
Many thanks

I am trying to follow the article written by Richard E. Dodge to improve my own skills.. Maybe it would be beneficial for your project

Leadership skills are not something that come naturally for most of us. Most leaders are made, not born, even though most leaders are blessed with leadership potential. Although God may bless us with gifts that can help us become effective leaders, we must develop the skills necessary to be good leaders. Sometimes the growth process results in scrapes and bruises, but we usually succeed if we really make an effort and have skilled leaders to follow. What skills should we practice to become effective leaders?

Make an effort daily to grow personally.

Not only should we become committed students of the Scriptures, but also we should read materials that help develop various skills. Become familiar with materials that strengthen skills and develop new ones.

Know where you want to go, and develop a plan to get there.

Sometimes this is called a vision. Write your vision or goal down and develop specific steps and activities that will help you get where you want to go.

Invest yourself in another person.

As you mentor another person, you sharpen your own skills.

Attend training events.

Associational, state, and national training events can help you become more skilled in leading Adult Bible Study Groups.

Take responsibility for your work.

Be proactive. Don’t wait for someone else to ask you to do something you know needs to be done. Work closely with others, and don’t become a "Lone Ranger" worker. But take care of the details that need attention.

Develop social relationships with other leaders.

The networks you establish through personal relationships often help you discover opportunities for growth just through conversations.

Get to know the people you lead as much as possible.

Good leaders know the strengths and weaknesses of those whom they lead. Teachers also should know the learning approaches and the interests of those they guide in Bible study.

Share the load with other leaders.

If someone in the leadership team is struggling with the load, help that person.

Evaluate regularly.

Personal evaluation will help you identify your own strengths and weaknesses. As you evaluate, find ways to improve. You may not turn every weakness into a strength, but you can become more effective in the growth process.

Hi Ajmal

Thanks for the article, I will incorporate some of those thoughts...

this is just a little bit about my project to confirm if i'm headed in the right direction.

I began my project by evaluating the employees on the basis of the leadership model of the company which consists of 15 leadership practices. this evaluation was done with the aid of external evaluators.

the evaluation generated a score for every employee on the basis of which they were mapped as star performers or strugglers. it also highlighted those attributes that needed improvement or any area of concern.

alongside this process, i conducted a research on training programs that focus on leadership both withen and outside the country. programs were selected and their cost effectiveness worked out.

eventually a model was created for each level in the company. with names of the employees, their score, their training needs to be addressed, the training program recommended and the cost involved.

as a management student eager to specialise in human resources, i look forward to inputs and advice.

many thanks......
