hi,
i need some guidance on EPF, would appreciate your help
in 2007, we had submitted to the EPF dept for transfer of my EPF a/c from the earlier employer to my current employer. however there is no trace whether the transfer has been effected or not. how do i check it ?
also i am leaving my current job to move to a place where the is no PF system, what do you suggest, should i do - (1) consolidate all my EPF and leave it under one employer, or (2) leave it as it is
any help shall be greatly appreciated...

Dear Pankaj
If you go to the concerned epf office and tell your current epf no. they will tell you whether the transfer has been affected or not. If it is not, check with the first no. and give a new form 13.
Now, regarding the movement of job, kindly let me know how many years of service you have with epf benefit. If it is more than 10, you are eligible for pension.
But if it is less than 10, please see that now as you are moving to a organisation, where there is no epf but in future you can move to another organisation where there is epf. So, in that case, if you close it you have to remit epf for another 10 years to get pension. It is depended on you to decide what to do .

thank you so much mr.sindhu for your help.
i have actually had 3.5 years of EPF benefit so 10 years may be very far away. but i have two questions - (1) in case i draw the amount, will this be taxed in my hands, & (2) if i keep the account open, how easy/difficult would it be to access/withdraw from this account say a few years later ?
thanx once again & sorry for the bother...

Dear Mr.Pankaj
There is no time limit that you should keep the account keep going on. You can close it when you want. Because the employer will at the earliest delete your name from theirs by giving form 10. If you are leaving the company with good terms with the employer, it is okay, that is if you think that they will put the employer's signature whenever you take it there, otherwise, take it back now. Fill all the forms, get the employer's forms, submit it after 60 days of relieving. The employer should do the submission part.
As far as I know, there is no tax. The amount will directly come to your bank account. You have to give bank account no., bank name and address in the form .
Hope you are clear now.
Thanks and regards
