Hi
There are 2 things
* Can you afford separate person as a office boy? if yes you should hire it.
* Is there any effect on work if Security people work as a office boy......if not much then as a part of cost cutting (till the company afford another person) manage it with same person. if Security issue is very big then you can take call
It's good that you have taken some action, but its always better to keep your staff in confidence before any action

dear neha
basically security person should not be used as office boy because in that case you are compromising with your security .if your office is very small and having 5-6 number of employees than you may think to do so ,otherwise it should be avoided.

By referring your tag line...... "Only when we learn to see the invisible, will we learn to do the impossible."
you must have a vision before taking the decision, Using a security as office boy is not a wrong if he is comfortable and eligible. Where as it could be cost saving to the company also.

Dear Neha,
when there is a chnage, people are reluctant to accept. But that should not mean they should never accept.
Please educate them and orient them the reason behind any change. They will understand - they will take tiem to accept, but will gradually change.
Good Luck! Good initiative... must say. Becasue I have been like trying for a month to change the habit of ppl in my org asking the staff in a mill to go get tea and coffee - Lot of eagles in my head. Will let u know if I become successful

Eagles on head? They should be made to understand as its a change which is going to benefit them. KB

Hi Neha,
It is always painful to unlearn or adapt to change hence the discontent amongst the employees. It is natural and you should not get so worked up, unless it is hampering the work atmosphere. The change will ultimately be accepted and things will return to normal.
However, if this really is a big issue that warrants intervention, you may meet these employees and let them know the reason behind your action - I'm sure you have one.
OR, as Umesh rightly says, hire an office-boy. You may also change the role of one of the Security Personnel to that of an office-boy (I'm not sure what your organization does, hence this may not be practical, nonetheless).

Dear all
Actually this company deals into manufacturing of solar devices and appliances.it has around 40 worker (company rolls)and 20 management and staff. the security person is a old fellow around 50 yrs.
we have 2 security ppl but one of them is running all the time and the other person takes care of the other twoo gates. so many times there is no one at the gate and visitors entry directly. that is why i dont want this office boy culture here.

Definitely not on my Head - but in my head.

Dear Neha,
Good that you feel better. Going forward - you will come across many changes that you will be initiating, and also convincing.
Take care!
