Hi all !!
I'm currently pursuing MBA in HR 1st yr, i'm a fresher & have done B.E (IT), as the current scene is very bad so dere is gr8 competition for placements within the college, could you seniors plz suggest any certification courses dat i can do in HR field so as to improve my CV & gain an edge over my batchmates.

PHR is a certification provided by HRCI - PHR-SPHR-GPHR Certification. They have all the relevant info on the certification. I did this certification while doing my MS in US.

From my perspective definitely certification would give you a competitive edge and also it shows a commitment towards being a sound HR professional
In India, a Masters degree in HRM is preferred over any other certification but if you are joining a global organization, a PHR would definitely be an added asset to your resume.

Many US organizations seek candidates with this certification. In my opinion, this certification is not as rigorous as some of the other HR certifications, but provides a good foundation.
One would gain a good theoretical foundation in all of the HR disciplines. Having said that this certification will not guarantee a job; but can give you an edge over other candidates.

it was gud to be find a link in which i myself was also interested.
i have done my masters in Industrial Psychology; now even im planning to take up some crash course in HR filed.
waiting for valuable inputs............
had options of SAP HR which is costly(preffered if Org. provides the Training)
im more keen on Training related courses.

I dont think so that any other certification will help you to get a job. As you are doing MBA it is enough educational qualification for entry level but still there is a scop of learning which can be learnt by experience.
I suggest you to concentrate on you course and complete if successfuly then try for any small orgn or in any recruitment consultancy to gain some enperience. There will be huge opportunity in India once recession over in the new HR dimension-Delivery HR. For which you have to have a good HR processes knowledge which cant be acquired just by a certificate. So go ahead and enjoy your present study...

Hi Rahul,
Well the info provided by you seems pretty useful. I am also thinking of taking up PHR exam in June '09. But am not too sure how useful it will be in Indian scenario provided the fact one has to study about US federal laws etc which may be irrelevant in India.
Can you tell me for how much time did you study for PHR?
Did you study from SHRM study material or from anyother course?
An early response will be highly appreciated.
