I want to have your views on the subject. I have recently been promoted as Officer (Personnel). I requested the company HR to designate me as Manager (HR). The pay scale is same for both the designations, the only difference is of the name (even the responsibilities are same)
In the company, some of the employees have been recruited as Manager and some as Officer in the same pay-scale. It doesn't matter much for the company but it matters to me.
Kindly let me know the difference between a Manager and Officer in the present industry. Your views are invited.

well manager is manager and officer is officer, you are drawing salary equivalent to Manager and still dont know the difference between Manager and Officer.
Even I dont know, But I only know Manager is Manager and Officer is Officer

I am working in a Limited company as an Officer HRD actually lookingafter whole HR & IR activities of Limited company as well as sistern org. too means Officer - HRD for 2 orgs. Now I have gone through company's Competency Skills wher I found, Officer in company equal to Supervisor.
Desig>>>> Trainee->Assist->Jr. Officer->Officer->Sr. Officer->Executive->Ass.Manager->Manager->....
While other orgnization put PGDHR/MLW/MBA_HR as Executive-....
So I am facing same prob.

Internationally, the difference between an Officer and Manager is the level of authority, the amount of supervision / guidance required and level of skill / expertise.
A Manager would normally have a higher level of authority, need less supervision and guidance and have more demonstrated skills in their industry.
I am not sure why your organisation has placed the salary levels equal for the 2 levels, possibily an officer in one department (Personnel) is receiving the same ssalary as a Manager in HR. Also, you may want to look closer at the difference between "Personnel" and "HR", and the difference between the 2 roles you are comparing.

Officer means one who have power and authority like that of leave sanctioning,appointing or any other authority given by top management.Difference between an officer and manager is that an officer can be of the level of asst. Mgr,deputy mgr or full manager.means it can be of any level depending upon the powers given by company.like in police even a sub-inspector is an officer and S.P,DIG,I.G and Director general of police are also officers but the difference is that in their authority,powers and jurisdiction.Its not neccesary that an officer can be a manager.he may be of lower rank.In my organisation,i have officer(HR) who is between Asst mgr. and Sr. executive(HR).
