Posted Today at 04:39 PM by <link outdated-removed>
Hallo seniors,
I m doing MBA in (HR) Guwahati n hav single specialisation. While looking for HR project in various companies, I hav got a project in a renowned Life Insurance Comp. Actually its a project-job, where i hav to recruit few Financial Consultants to the comp. (usually called Agents). I (or anyone who would do this project) would b get stipends per F.C. recruited . After da completion of prjt.(duration 2 months) they wl giv a certificate .
So u undrstand dat its nt like da usual prjtdat we do. And still i hav to look for getting my prjt dat i can do as under my univrsity curricula.
But i m confusedwhether its an HRproject or a marketing prjt. As such i m nt able to decide whethr i should do dis prjt. (or nt) only for the certificate . Its its a den i think i should nt waste my time on it.
PLZ tell me seniors whether its an HR or Mkt.- project.

Plz rply soon -its urgent.

Yes..this is None, not HR atleast..this is basically a profile of Unit and Agency Managers of Life Insurance Companies..They have to find Agents, make sure they get product training ( or getting them IRDA certified)..and get the sales done through them later on..
So its just an eyewash, fooling you saying its an HR job coz u have to do recruitments..but if this project counts academically then you can do..but fact is that, this has got nothing to do with HR

I do agree wth vineeta its not treated as HR Project.....Many of the guys do get such projects...though its recruitment but the process is completely different..they have their exams (insurance certification) and you just recruit them...
Learning as HR will not be much in this....So think before u go for it...

Hiring or recruitment is not a type of marketing that you learn in universities. To my understanding you are asked to hire few people as an agent and that is your project. More number of people you can hire, more stipend you will get. Now, you cannot just hire any individual to complete your assignment and that is why they have kept the time period of two months. You will get your certification based on attrition rate among the team members hired by you. This is very much a HR project.
Because you will just be doing your project, hence you will be asked to work with 2-3 unit managers and therefore you will not be required to clear IRDA exam or any such exam as mentioned by previous two respondent. Yes, it is difficult...in fact, very difficult but that is how the market is.
I hope this will help.

Hi pmon,
Yes, this is a HR project. Recruitment and selection is an integral part of HR and is one of the toughest tasks. 'Getting the right person for the position' - is the key. You will be gaining a lot of practical experience to rect. & sel. through this and that is valuable.
I do understand that it is not your usual univ. project type. Is there time for you to do find another proj. area? or with the same firm you can look at collecting data and analysing things like:
1. what is the emotional intelligence of certain grades of employees
2. is attrition linked to level of emotional inteligence?
3. higher the knowledge of financial products - higher the attrition in this company - is there a link? etc....
the possibilities are endless....
Hope this helps.
Cheers!!

It certainly is not a marketing project as you are not marketing anything. You need to ask the question what is your role in recruiting? Are you involved in advertising for the job: that is prepare a job spec and a personal spec for the agents? Once, the would be agents respond to the advert, is it your task to short list the candidates for interviewing, selecting, giving induction, etc? If you are going to be involved in any of these activities, then one could consider that as a HR project.
I would suggest that you dome literature search on this topic and find out how important it is.
However, having said that, I could not find any scholarly articles dealing with recruitment of agents.
Have a nice day.

Thanks Narasimhan for ur suggestion . Its true dat i hav to attract potential candidates and explain their roles n also giv induction (intro of da org.,various aspects of their job, about da training they would be getting under IRDA,....., benefits,....). Actually i hav to motivate them to join n work with the org. Then i hav to perceive a potential candidate (or person showing interest) among them n follow up with him/her (to further influence) to join.
Now i hav started dis project. Can anyone guide me -how can i write it in my CV, giving it an HR-perspective ?????????

Hi Snowhite
Who should tell the seniors the answer to the above question posed by pmon?
If you meant Seniors should provide the answer, then my advise would be to write what is written in proper 'English'.
Have a nice day.

To my inderstanding....looking at the role of HR today HR cannot be defined. It means you should be ready to take up any assignment anywhere.Today we talk of alignment of HR strategies with the business and you are given a task of alignment your recruitment strategy with the business goals and objectives which is a very integral function of HR.You should take up this role seriously and keep reading so that you are more clear about the role.
It is just how you look at things and how you perceive the role of HR to be.This is very much a valid project provided you perform it in the MBA way and not as any other individual.
All the best for your project and waiting to hear from you regarding the project.:-P
