Hi Sreenivasan,
Generally each Company have their own recruitment process and procedures but these are the process generally followed by most companies

1.Entry Level: Mostly hired by campus recruitments and at Job fairs and Advertsiements in Newspapers. They are assessed on written tests on aptitude , technology , Language and finally an HR interview is done to close the candidate.
The cut off marks and % age is predetermined or else based on the necessity and the offers are made. A bond is taken with the candidate later.

2. Mid Level, Mainly Sourced by Recruiters. The process will be Technical interviews folowed by PM interview / BU Unit Head Interview and an HR interview to follow up with offer. References are checked normally before making an offer.

3. Managerial Level - Mostly handled by Managers or VP/ Directors. These are primarily given to head hunters*. Also happens sometimes by Employee referral.

4. SR. LEVEL : Mainly handled by Directors or VP HR and is generally given to head hunters*. Nowdays Companies recruit headhunters who are speciliased in these types of recruitments . Linked In is a very important tool to head hunt and get connected to Sr Levels.

5.TOP LEVEL Handled and decided by Stake Holders . The interview can happen at the Borad Office or at a meeting.
