Hi Neeru
Competency Mapping is different from what u r referring to as Competition Mapping.
Competition Mapping is to try and find out competitors in your business area and related things about that. Here we can say that we need to find out what competencies your competitors and market is having and then devise plans and strategy for your own company to come up and move ahead in the market.
So we can see that Competition Mapping has to use competencies.
I am attaching a file which may help you to understand competency at a broader aspect. Hopefully you will get more info on this from other members.

Hi Neeru
Some of the methods I can think of wrt competition mapping are:
- SWOT Analysis
- Balanced Scorecard
- Market Trends and forecast
- Future Demand
- Internal manpower analysis
There may be many more. Basically its like what you need to stay ahead in competition. So the most important thing is to have knowledge of what is going in market and what the competitor has which your company lacks or must have.
