I am working in an IT company with 120 employees. Few of our employees are going for an onsite project for 6 months. Should we give any outfit allowance to them to do some purchase before their travel???.... Thanks and Regards Rekha HR Executive

I am unable yo understand what do you mean by by outfit allowance. I presume it is a kind of Tour advance. If so, it is upto the organisation to pay. Generally, it is a good practice to advance some amount before a person moves for a tour or deputation. This amount is adjusted when the tour bill is settled otherwise, it can be adjusted from the deputation allowance payable in the forthcoming month(s). Usually allowances are different from advances, the former is non refundable whereas the latter is refunded or adjusted as stated above. Please clarify. Regards, Madhu.T.K

Dear Mr.Madhu, Thanks a lot for the reply. What I basically understood from the employee who asked me about this is whether he will be given some amount to do some purchases from India for the 6 months he is going to stay abroad. He dint mean the advance which can be given and hence this amount cant be adjusted during the Tour Settlement. I tried to find it through few of my friends and others whether they have such a thing in their companies.But none of them have it. I also personally feel there is no need of such an allowance,but wanted to check. Thanks and Regards Rekha R Krishnan

Hello Sir, I am currently working in one of the engineering firm and they do projects on Turnkey basis for Hydro Power Plant on small scale. So, company have requirement for deputing the erection and comissioning engineer to such sites which for certain period of time, which differes from 3 months to 6 months. These sites are remote areas. My management is asking to restructure their salary to motivate employees so that they can move for the period company requires them to be on these sites and complete the projects. I have to make new Saalry structure as well as short tem transfer policy. Company will provide the accomodation for individual employee as we do not appreciate to take family to such areas, also company will pay the fair of travell to the site and coming back to head office. Please help me on this, I will appreciate your advice and if possible if you can help me in getting such policy and salary structure for Companies involved in doing power projects. Hi Rekha, You can give them an allowance to purchase winter clothing like coats, sweaters, gloves etc, depending on which place they are visiting and the weather conditions at that time. We gave our employees an allowance to purchase winter clothing when they visited UK during winter, but didn't give them the same allowance when they were travelling during summer. Hope this helps.
