Well this case happened with one of our employees also, In this case it is the Management who clears the no dues and forwards letters to PF Gratuity offices and sees that the family of deceased GETS THE SETTLEMENT without hassles. Since your employee died while in service.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY / THE HR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET ALL DONE.. AND DO IT URGENT.. WITHOUT DELAY
This type of cases is to be handled immediately in interest of the family of deceased. Hope u understood, in this case, whatever a employee does for his benefits that the management is going to do now.

01. Confirm the name of the nominee by Form 34 of the Factories Act.
02. Ask them to get death certificate nearly 5 or 6 by paying extra fees
03. Submit death relief fund claim form to ESI corporation with Death certificate
04. Submit death relief fund claim form to labour welfare Board with death certificate
05. Submit EPF and FPF claim forms
06. check whether he has paid any premium to LIC and apply for it
07. Submit application for getting full amount from gratuity
08. Arrange for settling the full and final settlement (salary, PL encashment, Bonus etc)
09. If possible collect some voluntory donation from the employees and Management and give it to the nominee
10. Take care of the family members.

if passed in service then many benefits are applicable including pension and pf, gratuity and also service may be provided to the Son or Govt SErvant as per applicable clause.
if passed after retirement then Pension is transferred to wifes name
